This book has two title pages. The second title page is dated 1838 and the first title leaf is dated 1849. The 1838 title leaf reads: "Illustrations of the Annulosa of South Africa; Being a Portion of of the Object of Natural History..." The reason for this is that Macleay was the author of this small part of Andrew Smith's Zoology. The final work was published in 28 parts between 1 July 1838 and 30 November 1849. It is was commonly bound into three volumes, but early editions are cloth bound in five divisions, Mammalia, Aves, Reptilia, Pices and Invertebratae.

The first title leaf of this item reads: "Invertebratae" and is dated 1849 - the last part of the final work, although first printed in 1838.

Later red leather and book cloth binding with gilt titling on the spine. 6 prelims, 75 pages and 4 hand coloured plates.
CONDITION DETAILS: The spine is worn to the extent that the gilt titling is difficult to read. The end papers are browned. There is a pen name on the front free end paper. The text and the plates are in good condition.
