295 pages: illustrations (some colour), colour frontispiece, portraits, maps. (Brenthurst [first] series; 5). Quarto. Cloth, dust wrapper slightly rubbed along edges & on spine and with a small tear to fore-edge.

Standard edition limited to 850 copies.

Published by Mr Harry Oppenheimer's Brenthurst Press one hundred years after the Anglo-Zulu War which, Mr Oppenheimer notes in his Foreword, had 'far-reaching consequences' for Southern Africa. This work has become one of the harder titles to find in the three series produced by the Brenthurst Press. Deals with events prior to the war, the first invasion on 11 January 1879, Isandhlwana (22 January 1879), Rorke's Drift, the second invasion, Eshowe, Ulundi and the death of the Prince Imperial.
