With an introduction by A Gordon-Brown. Numbered 170 of a limited edition of 1500 numbered copies.

This is the personal narrative of a young Scottish officer who was on garrison duties with the 93rd Highland Regiment of Foot. He also accompanied his regiment to Florida where he took part in the British attempt to capture New Orleans. A keen observer, his narrative of travels in the Cape is of particular interest as social commentary. Includes fold-out colour reproduction of his water-colour of Cape Town in 1814.

Frontispiece is of a drawing by Ewart of Cape Town in 1813. The first fold-out colour reproduction is of his water-colour of Cape Town in 1814.
