Gilt on spine and spine paper, particularly at ends, are worn. Clear tape at top of spine has no structural purpose. Previous owners' names on end papers. Some light foxing to prelims.
Born in 1851 and educated at Rugby school, Selous left for Africa in 1870 to be a big game hunter. He spent much of his time hunting in Sub-Saharan Africa and served in the Matabele wars. During the great war, he was given a commission in the 25th Battalion of the Fusiliers, at the age of 63. He was killed during the campaign in East Africa in 1917.
