The Fourth (1906-7) Edition.
Contains a comprehensive alphabetical list of around 746 pages providing details on all the companies on the Rand, which includes: dates of registration, offices and addresses, names of directors, accounts, capital, dividends, Properties etc.
'The aim of "Mines of the Transvaal" is to give information, derived mainly from reports and other official data, as to the position of Rand mining undertakings, with some brief particulars of Transvaal and other South African companies. There are added to this, the fourth edition, particulars as to various diamond and coal companies. It is only claimed for the work that it puts together a mass of facts regarding each individual company never yet published in such comprehensive form for ready reference as presented in previous editions of this work, and now brought up to date.
That the South African Goldfields merit a special handbook of reference as to the individual companies goes without saying. The progress of the Witwatersrand in especial as a gold-producing district has been marvellous. Eighteen or nineteen years ago what now is covered with mining equipment was bare veldt.' - from the Preface
