Octavo. Blue cloth titled in gilt; 362pp; Frontispiece, black and white plates. Straight and sound, rubbing to corners with one slightly bent, textblock edges a little dirty. Bookplate of previous owner on end paper. Clean copy internally.

The Black Watch is a line infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of two Highland regiments. It has a long and distinguished history of service in various wars and conflicts, and is known for its red hackle and tartan uniform. In "My Six Years with The Black Watch" details the authors service during the Egyptian Campaign, Eastern Sudan, Nile Expedition & Egyptian Frontier Force. It includes a study of General Charles G Gordon and his Commission from the British and Egyptian Governments to Khartoum.
