Bethell (1862-1920) was educated at Eton and Sandhurst. In 1885 he served in the Warren expedition to combat Boers trekking into Bechuanaland. Bethell was seconded to the Bechuanaland Border Police and it was during this period he travelled through what today is northern Zimbabwe and southern Zambia. An interesting account.
