A collection of two historic menus from a Civic Banquet held in honour of South African State President Mr. C. R. Swart and Mrs. Swart on the occasion of the presentation of “The Freedom of the City” to the South African Navy, dated May 15th, 1965. The event was hosted by the Mayor of East London, Councillor Robbie L. de Lange, at the Regency Room, Carlton Hotel, East London.

The menus are bilingual, written in both English and Afrikaans, and include the detailed program of the event, the toast list, and the banquet menu featuring an elegant selection of hors d’oeuvres, soups, mains, desserts, and beverages. A rare artifact of South African political and naval history, commemorating a prestigious state event during the apartheid era.
