An inscribed copy of Cole's hardly known and excedingly rare first book, published by him at the age of 21. A small fragile 68pp book in the original grey wraps. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to H.R.F. Hoernle. In amazingly fine otherwise unmarked condition.
George Douglas Howard Cole (25 September 1889 – 14 January 1959) was an English political theorist, economist, historian, and novelist. Despite his extensive non fiction writings and publications, he is probably best known today for the 29 Detective Fiction books he wrote with his wife Margaret.
R.F.A. Hoernle - Reinhold Friedrich Alfred Hoernlé (1880–1943), usually referred to as Alfred Hoernlé, was a South African philosopher and social reformer. He was Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand. Both he and Cole were graduates of Baillol College, Oxford and may have become acquainted there.
I can find NO other copies of this book on the Rare Book Hub database and there is currently only one copy on offer on ABE - an uninscribed copy with a detached front wrapper.
