Communications from The School of African Studies, University of Cape Town, No. 31. 240 x 145 mm; burgundy wrappers with title label mounted to upper cover; pp. xiv + 130. A little light browning; occasional light fox spot; pen stripe to bottom edge. Very good condition.

Very uncommon. Not in Murphy & Goff, nor in Doke Collection. Nama is one of the few living Khoekhoe languages, characterised by click sounds, and spoken by groups in southern Namibia and parts of neighbouring South Africa and Botswana. "Pastor Friederich Rust's Nama Grammar is a practical graded Grammar and is designed for the use of layman, student and scholar alike. The Grammar is based on a number of previous works by Vedder, Olpp, Meinhof and others. But it is also based in part on a work that Rust had prepared for his mission and for his missionary colleagues in SWA and which they each typed from his original ms. when and where they needed it. ... The present Grammar is a complete revision with many new examples and many new descriptive revaluations." - From the series editor's foreword, which is in English
