First Edition: Title page, one page of text, 22 hand-coloured and tinted lithographs on 19 plates (13 are tinted and 8 are double tinted), recent half red morocco, titled gilt along the spine, red buckram sides, tears in three plates repaired and some margins strengthened, the title page is soiled, the plates are clean and free of foxing.
Originally published in brown paper wrappers with a pink cloth back - it is on this wrapper that the author's names appear but they are not repeated on the title page (this required Mendelssohn to consult Harts Army List for 1853 to ascertain their names. See following note), it was published both plain (the lithographic plates are single or double-tinted) and hand-coloured. No date but the text page is dated March 8th, 1854 at the foot.
Mendelssohn (Sydney) South African Bibliography, volume 1, page 801, 'A collection of interesting lithographic views. The initials of the artists are L. G. and H. R. Note. — On examination of Hart's Army List for 1853, it appears that the only officers of the 43rd Light Infantry answering to these initials were Lieutenants Lumley Graham and Hugh Robinson.'
