Second edition: [ ii ] unpaginated - 26 leaves, 52 plates mounted on both sides with captions, marbled end papers with reinforced hinges and inner gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, brown padded leather covers, titled gilt on the upper cover, brown cloth spine, now housed in a specially made red cloth solander box with red title label gilt on the upper cover and spine, a very good copy.

From the preface he states: In submitting this the 2nd edition of my South African Souvenir .. there will be fewer shortcomings in consequence of the experience gained. Not one of the following pictures appeared in the 1897 volume.
