Work on the Standard Encyclopaedia of Southern Africa (SESA) started in 1957 and the 12 volumes were published from 1970 to 1976. SESA is the result of collaboration between the editors and more than 1000 contributors. The main emphasis in the encyclopedia falls upon South Africa and its immediate neighbors.

The last volume consists of a comprehensive Index with over 50 000 entries, containing not only references to specific objects, but in many instances showing relationships as a whole. Plants and animals are entered under their common names. In addition, there are many general articles surveying larger groupings, such as botanical and zoological families, orders, etc.

Complete in 12 Volumes. Cloth boards with titling on front and spine, in protective plastic wrappers as issued, illustrated with color plates and b&w images. Light foxing on first and last pages, else a very good set.
