The Reverend Dr. James Muir (1757–1820) was a Scottish-born Presbyterian minister and religious author who served long-term as pastor in Virginia, United States. From 1789 until his death, he served as the pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, Virginia (later known as the Old Presbyterian Meeting House).
It is known that President George Washington attended services led by the Reverend Dr. James Muir at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, Virginia.
The second sermon in this collection, "Repentance, or Richmond in Tears," explicitly details the catastrophic Richmond Theatre Fire of December 26, 1811, a massive national tragedy. Because early American texts addressing this specific disaster are highly sought after by collectors of Southern and Virginia history, this content slightly boosts the book's value compared to standard theological texts of the era.
