Volumes I & II of this vintage collection of early Johannesburg photographs, known as the Barnett Collection, published by The Star, one of Johannesburg's oldest newspapers. The brothers Joseph and David Barnett were pioneering photographers in Johannesburg. Their striking photographs capture everyday life during the early days on the Witwatersrand Gold Fields. In the 1920's younger brother David sold the entire collection of over 2,000 negatives to the Star newspaper.
