First edition: 4 volumes, 454 + 553 + 355 + 420 pages, folding map, 40 colour plates, 521 text illustrations, original blue cloth, edges uncut, titled gilt on the spines, which are slightly faded, the corners are bumped, a good set.

A survey of the avifauna of Southern Rhodesia. Written by Captain Cecil D. Priest, the work correlates distributional records, nesting observations, taxonomy, and field studies of the region's birdlife, while drawing upon the contemporary research of Roberts, Sclater and other leading southern African ornithologists. The colour plates are after Henrik Grønvold and Norman Lighton.

In his Preface to volume 4 Priest mentions that an index dealing with every individual mentioned in the four volumes and a place-name index, which includes estates and farms, would follow but it was never issued.
