The existence of the diary which Paddy Carolin, vice-captain of the pioneer 1906 Springboks in the United Kingdom, kept on this tour remained unknown until his son, Punks, in 1988 decided to look into two old boxes in his attic. In these boxes he discovered a rugby treasure trove second to none. THE CAROLIN PAPERS is the result of the contents of these boxes. In them were not only Carolin's diary, but also two albums with photo's from the historic 1906 tour, a book with copies of letters Carolin wrote home on the tour, a comprehensive scrapbook of contemporary newspaper cuttings on the tour, as well as copies of almost all the articles Carolin wrote to newspapers over a period of almost fifty years."
