Volume 1: 'The First Line of Defence 1889-1903'

Volume 2: 'The Right of the Line 1903-1939'.

The first volume of the history of the Rhodesian Police force covers the period during which its members participated in the occupation of Mashonaland, the first Matabele War, the Jameson Raid, the suppression of the Matabele and Mashona Rebellions, the Relief of Mafeking and the campaign in the Western Transvaal during the South African War.

The second volume of the history is the story of growing up - the story of the transformation of this mounted infantry regiment into a professional police force, and the gradual acceptance that the force no longer had a military role to play.
