Beige pictorial cloth covers, patterned end papers, 419 pages. The dust jacket is rare to find but has some paper loss around edges. A signed inscription on ffep to WAR Collins, dated 12/3/1952, Hilton Road, Natal. Inscribed by Ethel Campbell, the daugter of Sam Campbell. Also an extra typed note by her loosely inserted. 
Letters, chapters and information on:experiences among the Zulus, the Siege of Ladysmith, Indian Immigration, the 1906 Zulu Rebellion, the sugar planters, Union 1910.

  • Military Service:
    He joined the East Lancashire Regiment in 1892 and was promoted through the ranks, eventually becoming a captain in 1900.  
    War Correspondent:
  • During the Anglo-Boer War, he served as a war correspondent for the (British) Daily News.  
  • Natal Native Rebellion:
    In 1906, he was involved in the Natal Native Rebellion, where he was Commandant of the Natal Militia. 
  • Artifact Collection:
    Collins collected stone tools from various sites during his military service, including locations in Natal, indicating his interest in archaeology and prehistory.  
  • Geological Association:
    He was a founding member of the South African Geological Association in the Transvaal in 1888.
