The Name of the Rose (Italian: Il nome della rosa) is the 1980 debut novel by Italian author Umberto Eco. It is a historical murder mystery set in an Italian monastery in the year 1327, and an intellectual mystery combining semiotics in fiction, biblical analysis, medieval studies, and literary theory. Condition: Dust jacket in fair condition, with rubbing, edgewear, creases, open and closed tears, old sticker on front, and old price sticker on rear, repairs made with tape to verso of jacket at the folds and edges. Book: Good. Light creases to spine. Foxing to edges of textblock, especially to top edge. Light foxing to endpapers and pastedowns. Previous owner’s blind stamps to front endpaper and front flyleaf. Split to gutter between front flyleaf and half title page. Text clean. Still well bound.
