Includes a typed letter providing some context to the three loosely inserted photos that are of the consecration ceremony conducted by Bishop Gwynne, the Lord Bishop of Egypt and the Sudan, at the British Legation Cemetery at Addis Ababa on 14th April, 1943. The letter was sent on behalf of Colonel Cheesman, author of Lake Tana and the Blue Nile (see following lot). The letter is signed by hand by Sir Edwin Arthur Chapman-Andrews.

Diplomat and businessman. Joined Levant Consular Service in 1926. Sent to Abyssinia (Ethiopia) in 1930 as Acting Vice-Consul. Appointed Acting Consul in Harar in 1936. Liaison Officer on staff of Commander in Chief, Middle East from 1937-1941 where he helped to facilitate arrangements for the return of Emperor Haile Selassie to Ethiopia in 1941. Ambassador for Lebanon 1952-1956; Ambassador for Sudan 1956-1961.
