"Translation into English of the Transvaal Gold Law, 15 of 1898, together with an Index, and the Cases decided under the different Sections of the Law."

Publisher's brown cloth binding with gilt titles on the spine.

xvii + 81pp.

Binding good although with cloth splits along the spine. Contents clean with three former owners' names on front endpaper, which includes that of the very first owner, Max Cohn, who has handwritten his name on the front endpaper with date 21/2/99 (1899). There is also a rubber stamp for his practice, "Attorney, Notary and Conveyancer, Corporation Buildings, c/o. Commissioner & Rissik Sts., P.O. Box 958, Johannesburg."

Shortly afterwards, however, this copy came into the possession of Abraham Fischer, 1st Prime Minister of the Orange River Colony. His signature "A. Fischer" is on the front paste down and Mr. Cohn's rubber stamp, which also appears on the front paste down, is crossed out in the same ink as Fischer's signature.

'The Gold Law of 1898 contains very many important alterations of the old law of 1896. This can easily be seen by referring to the table of corresponding articles attached to the translation. Fifty-two new cases have been added to the list appearing in the first edition. Cases not falling under any particular article of the Law have been placed together at the end of the translation.

The first edition proved to be very useful not only to lawyers, but also to business men interested in gold mining, and it is hoped that the present edition will prove to be still more so.' - from the author's preface
