A two-volume Batchworth edition (1953, limited to 1,250) of Burchell's travels in Southern Africa (1811–1815), reprinted from the 1822 original. Highlights his esteemed work as a naturalist—including species named after him like Burchell's zebra and coucal—and his detailed ethnographic observations.

Collation: Vol 1: i–xxix, 1–381, 3 maps; Vol 2: i–xvi, 1–473, 1 map. Features 16 plates, 96 vignettes, and 2 maps (1 folding, 1 extending). Condition: Very good, uncut, in original blue buckram with gilt spine titles. Top edge dyed blue, blue cloth with titled gilt on the spines which are very lightly faded.
