Two original signed cheques (Nederlandsche Bank voor Zuid Afrika, Kaapstad) by F.W.Reitz, ex president of the Orange Free State. The first cheque for 3 pounds, 18 shillings and 6 pence is made out to the Publishers H.A.U.M. and is dated 22 Dec. 1932.  The second cheque, dated 7th. June 1933, is made out to Lewis & Sims for 1 pound, 6 shillings and 9 pence. Both cheques are endorsed on the back by the recipients.

Francis William Reitz, Jr. (Swellendam, 5 October 1844 - 27 March 1934) was a South African lawyer, politician, statesman, publicist, author and poet, who was a member of parliament of the Cape Colony, Chief Justice and fifth State President of the Orange Free State, State Secretary of the South African Republic at the time of the Second Boer War, and the first president of the Senate of the Union of South Africa. He was a signatory of the Treaty of Vereeniging at the end of the Boer War. He was the father of Deneys Reitz and brother-in-law of W.P. Schreiner. The publishers H.A.U.M., to whom the one cheque is made out, published at least two of Reitz's books, being Een Eeuw Van Onrecht and Twee En Sestig Uitgesogte Afrikaanse Gedichte.
