Published by George Newnes, Limited, London, 1900.  First edition 1881, this the new edition 1900. 6½ x 9½" pp. xiv + 483 with fold-out map and 56 b/w illustrations. Near fine blue cloth gilt covers with design of Mount Fuji on the front cover. Bevelled boards. All edges gilt. Contents fine with no marks except some light foxing internally.

Bishop left England to enjoy better clims for her health in 1878, she returned to Japan in 1894 and 1896. She was the first woman to be elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
