xviii, 249 pages: illustrations, portraits, map. Paperback. Spotting to pages edges and covers. Lacks the usual accompanying music CD, "The Recces" by Lourens Fourie.

Special force operators were carefully selected and trained to gather covert strategic and tactical information about enemy activities. This copy has a lengthy signed (twice) and dated (21-09-2001) inscription from Eugene de Kock (addressed to 'Andries') on the dedication page and the 'About the author' page. De Kock points out (in Afrikaans) that those who were in this unit gave up their lives, families, freedom, friends, and faced death, to serve. He also questions one incident recorded, but suggests "Ek laat dit egter daar' [I leave it there]. The inscription provides an interesting insight into the man who spent time in prison (he was sentenced in 1996 to 212 years and two life sentences but received parole in 2015 after apologising to the families of those he killed) and was described as 'Prime Evil'. A remarkable piece of Africana.
