Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography volume 1, page 930: In this volume the narrative " begins with our triumphal occupation of Bloemfontein, and is continued till after the time of the breaking up of the Guards' Brigade." The publication sets forth " the many-sided life of our soldiers on active service, their privations and perils, and in some cases their unfeigned piety."

Hackett (R.G.) South African War Books: an illustrated bibliography page 62: A record compiled by the senior Wesleyan Chaplain attached to the Guards' Brigade. Most of the narrative concerns the march through the orange Free State and later operations in the Transvaal. A chapter on clergy in general, is included. Some of the material was first published in The Methodist Times, The Methodist Recorder and other papers.
