First edition: 277 pages, frontispiece of Rev E.P. Lowry, 7 plates, uncut edges, light foxing on several pages, pictorial red cloth, a very good copy.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography volume 1, page 930: In this volume the narrative " begins with our triumphal occupation of Bloemfontein, and is continued till after the time of the breaking up of the Guards' Brigade." The publication sets forth " the many-sided life of our soldiers on active service, their privations and perils, and in some cases their unfeigned piety."
