This lot is made up of the following:

(1) From a Victorian era album: 14 Original photographs from the Anglo-Boer war, including two dramatic images of a Boer farm house burning down.

plus;

(2) 4 photographs and 1 cabinet card from the era.

(1) The photographs from the album are mounted on two loose pages measuring 260x350mm. The actual size of the photographs are 83x60mm. Most of the 14 photos from the album have captions in pencil.

The captions read: - Setting fire to a Boer farm; - One of the Boer farms burning, furniture put outside; - Graves of soldiers which fell and are buried on top of Amagamba; - Three little Boer girls, their fathers are in prison; - Block House by the river Valh (Vaal); - Flogging a Nigger; - Crossing the veld on donkeys; - Group of Zulus; - Women washing clothes; - A black lady.

uncaptioned or not legible: - British soldier with two Zulus - Five soldiers at a field kitchen x2 - a group of black people in a kraal.

With the exception of four photographs the images from this album can be described as good.

Between the Anglo-Boer war images are period cards interspersed.

(2) 4 photographs and one cabinet card (photograph pasted on card) of Middelburg, Transvaal, 1902 with the inscription: "A Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year". The 4 photographs are sun faded. The small photos were with the card so one can assume they are from the same area and date. The small ones show a tent and men working, in one of them the men are in uniform. The photos measure 85 x 65mm and the card 165 x 106mm.
