The Battalion experiences severe fighting in battles at Willow Grange, Vaal Krantz, Monte Casino and Railway Hills. Following the occupation of Pretoria the West Yorks remained in the Transvaal chiefly employed in escort and garrison duties. At various times they were at Rustenberg in the west and Wakkestroom and Piet Retief in the south east. The record includes a list of casualties.’
