4 x Souvenir Programmes Commemorating the 1947 Royal Visit.

1.) A Pictorial Souvenir of the Royal Tour 1947. Published in 1947 by the Central News Agency, Johannesburg.

64pp. Softcover.

Book in very good condition with captioned illustrations in profusion documenting the famous 1947 visit of the British Royal Family to South Africa. It was to be Princess Elizabeth's (today Queen Elizabeth II) first overseas tour and she celebrated her 21st birthday while on this tour. Her birthday coincided with the family's visit to the historic city of Pietermaritzburg. The illustrations are reproduced from original photographs from the Cape Times, Rand Daily Mail, The Natal Mercury and Sunday Times.

2.) A souvenir programme of the Royal Visit to South Africa in 1947 in sturdy pictorial card wraps. The front cover features the royal crown over Table Mountain, the British and South African flags symbolising union, and the Union Buildings in Pretoria. 

The Royal Tour lasted three months and the family (King George VI and Queen Elizabeth with their daughters princesses Elizabeth and Margaret) toured the whole of South Africa. The programme includes a day by day itinerary of the places visited. There is a short description on each page of every town of note visited by the Royal Family. The booklet also contains contemporary adverts in profusion. 56pp.

3.) Souvenir Programme Of The Visit Of Their Majesties King George VI And Queen Elizabeth, And Their Royal Highnesses Princess Elizabeth And Princess Margaret, To Cape Town, 17th February, 1947.

Includes photographs, and hour by hour programme of events as well as a map of the inner city.

4.) A souvenir programme printed by L. Backhouse, Church Street, Pietermaritzburg, and published by the municipality of Pietermaritzburg in 1953, to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. 16pp.
