An account of Hutchinson's botanical expeditions to various parts of Africa. The author's background as a botanical specialist from Kew was well known, and in South Africa he was given friendly reception by eminent South African botanists. But it was his association with General Smuts, himself a botanist of note, that makes this book so interesting. Smuts accompanied him across the Limpopo to Zimbabwe and Tanganyika.
