Half Maroon  leather on White  Buckram.  Corners are slightly bumped. And some wear to edges.

The Frontispiece is protected by a tissue guard.

There is foxing on Electro etched  Plates

The cover has the title   and author in gilt  on the spine, and a frontal view of a Springbok’s head.  The front is decorated with head of a Sable Antelope in profile and below with that of a Kudu.

The overall condition is Good, and the cleaning of the white Buckram by an expert would improve the appearance.

Ex Libris plate on paste down. From the Library of Alexander Peckover Baron of Wisbech.

John Guille Millas  ( 24th March 1865 - 24th March 1931) was a British artist, naturalist, traveller and sportsman, who travelled the world following Big Game, sketching and describing with great accuracy the ways of wildlife with very readable text.

Illustrations are by the author with the exception of a full page electro etched frontispiece on India paper by the author’s father Sir John E Millais.  There are 12 Full Page electro etches on India Paper, as well as 12 Full page plates also on India Paper. Within the text there are 125 illustration of different sizes all on India Paper. The text is printed on Hand-made wove paper. All Illustrations are of South African Fauna and Flora and camp life.

A very collectable and scarce title.

Mendelssohn 2:13 The Daily Telegraph of London commented that this was “A Classic of the shooting World”. It soon became very rare, more so as this is one of only 60 signed and numbed copies.

Please note that this is a heavy book, weighing 5,7kg without packaging.
