A treatise by the English clergyman Henry Felton (1679-1740), addressed to a young nobleman, John Roos, the future Duke of Rutland, on the cultural and literary affairs of society, emphasizing the importance of understanding the Latin classics.Much of this popular little book is devoted to the author\'s theories of education in general, and the art of teaching in particular, as well as rhetoric and literary style. There are also remarks on such contemporary writers as Swift (his favorite), Addison, Dryden, Prior, Milton, Otway, Cowley, and Denham. 243 pp, in original panelled calf binding, some age-toning on textblock, cypher on eps, hinges have been repaired nicely with archival tape.
