Red cloth-covered boards, black titles on front and spine. Pages slightly browned. Binding still very good. Previous owner's signatures on front endpapers. Some internal red and blue underlining. No illustrations, but some interesting tables and examples.

Pages [1-6]7-128.

The Union Parliament made an amendment to the Constitution making Afrikaans an official language of the Union. Langenhoven wrote this little book to encourage English-speaking parliamentarians to use and understand Afrikaans. It is written with humour, but it certainly conveys the skills needed in a friendly and useful manner.

For example, the book starts with a chapter To The Learner: "My dear fellow or madam - Moenie hierdie oorslaan nie - don't skip this - as if it were a preface or an introduction. Although not so entitled, it is really the first lesson. Nou ja, luister dan - well then, listen."

The tone of the book is delightful - pure Langenhoven throughout.
