Original green cloth boards with gilt titling and a decoration on the spine and three antelope head decorations on the upper board. Original maroon decorated end papers. xviii prelims, photocopy of frontispiece, original tissue guard, large folding map, 7 animal heads plates with 45 illustrations and a further 16 of 17 illustrations, all in black and white, 455 pages. The missing plate is one that should appear opposite page 226 of the Cobus Vardoni antelope. CONDITION DETAILS: The missing frontis and another plate are a major flaws, but the original green cloth binding is in reasonable condition and not often seen. The binding does have some wear and soiling, but is above average. See image: The front paste down has the name 'D. Begg", but otherwise no pen marks. There is very little foxing internally, but the frontis, tissue guard and blanks have severe foxing. The map has several tears and creases.
