G.D. Hale Carpenter (26 October 1882 – 30 January 1953) was a British entomologist and medical doctor. He worked first at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and in Uganda, on tse-tse fliesand sleeping sickness. His main work in zoology was on mimicry in butterflies, an interest he developed in Uganda and Tanganyika. (wikipedia) His experience of studying the Tse-tse fly and the other animals and insects living on Lake Victoria is encapsulated in this wonderfully illustrated volume.
xvii, 333 pp, 87 illustrations including full-page, 2 color plates of butterflies, each with tissue guard and letterpress, tables, folding charts, large folding map. In original green boards with gilt tilting on spine and vignette embossed on upper cover. Internally clean with uncut page ends. Two names on fep & ffep and also a newspaper clipping pasted regarding the death of this author.
