Contains additional engraved title page by W.Marshall. 225p. 36 in-text engraved illustrations of Persian monarchs, native inhabitants, maps, exotic flora and fauna (including the Dodo bird), fantastic sea creatures, and a chapter on "that Continent now call'd America." Contains Persian-English language glossary. Herbert's "notes on the travels make the volume one of the most interesting and attractive of the earlier and more primitive accounts" (Mendelssohn I, 706).
Contemporary rebinding, half leather, mustard cloth, raised bands and gilt lettering to spine. Front upper corner is slightly bumped. Previous owner's name (1890) on title page. Slight dampstain to fore-edge.
