1948 first edition, red cloth covers, 408 pages. A rare dust jacket included but with lots of wear and paper loss around edges. With illustrations which include sketches by the author. Eight chapters inside on his time during the Anglo-Boer War. (38 pages) Included a letter of 4 pages written by the author and dated 1949.

Bookplate of Sir Francis James Grant on front end paper. Grant 1863 -1953) was a Scottish officer of arms who eventually rose to the office of Lord Lyon King of Arms. Grant served in the Court of the Lord Lyon as Carrick Pursuant of Arms in Ordinary beginning on 17 May 1886. This appointment lasted until his promotion to the office of Rothesay Herald of Arms in Ordinary and Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records on 8 September 1898.        

Captain Haldane was the author of the Anglo-Boer War title: How we escaped from Pretoria.
