2 volumes: I. (x),xlviii,358. II. (ix), 380 pages, contemporary sprinkled calf, spines decorated gilt in panels and with red and dark green title labels, marbled endpapers, page edges dyed light red. Neat repairs to the top and bottoms of the spines and hinges. The bottom corners of all pages in volume II are damp stained otherwise the contents are crisp.
Hutcheson’s intellectual legacy was considerable. He influenced the concepts later propounded so effectively by Adam Smith, one of his pupils, who was later to occupy the same Chair at Glasgow University. Smith’s name appears in the list of subscribers in volume 1 (for 2 sets).
