A very good copy of this fairly scarce Boer War book. 8vo. 411pp. which includes the 12pp. of prelims. Oddly this copy is lacking pp. iii - viii of the Preface - this seems to be a binding error as there is no evidence of removal of these pages - it appears that a single section has not been sewn in. There are many full page photographic plates throughout the volume. Bound in the original dark green cloth with a photographic onlay on the front cover. SABIB Vol. 1, Page 210.
This is a very good tight attractive copy. The endpapers are starting to crack at the inner hinges but holding firm. A 5cm. tear in the front pastedown has been repaired. There is some foxing mainly affecting the title page and the frontispiece but very little elsewhere.
The Irish Brigade were Boer sympathisers and fought on the Boer side in the War. Colonel John Blake, a former US Army officer, was their commander. This book recounts their various operations including in the Siege of Ladysmith and the Battle of Colenso.
