A Pocket watch chain made by a Boer prisoner of war in India in 1902. There is a very old ticket accompanying this item which identifies its origin and date although, unfortunately, not the maker.
The writing on the tag is in Afrikaans and reads as follows: "134. Wire Pocket Watch Chain, Prisoner of War, India, 1902,...(illegible) Society."
Provenance: The grandson of Afrikaans author J. Albert Coetzee.
The watch chain is in very good condition.
