Frederick Boyle, 1841-1914, was a prominent traveller and newspaper
correspondent who published a number of books on his travels in the
second half of the nineteenth century. 'Adventures among the Dyaks
of Borneo,' his first book, was written after a journey undertaken with
his brother Arthur when he was only 22. Boyle travelled extensively in
Sarawak in 1863. He provides an informed view of the personalities of
members of the Government in the later years of James Brooke's reign,
together with a comprehensive description of Dyak life at the time.
This is one of the scarcest of the nineteenth century books on Sarawak.
