B.T. Batsford Ltd, London, 1938. Buckram Cloth. Condition: Very Good. [8] + 114 p. + 95 plates with 126 halftone illustrations; with map of the author's itinerary; photographic endpapers. Slight foxing on preliminary and rear pages; text and photographs fine; covers lightly soiled at the edges but clean and bright. With rare booklet promoting the book loosely inserted. The photographer's first book, with the text based on extracts from his diaries. "I have purposely omitted all sordidness of realism in my photographs, and have concentrated on the plastic and heroic side of an Africa which is slowly disappearing."

Baron George Hoyningen-Huene (September 4, 1900 – September 12, 1968) was a seminal fashion photographer of the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Russia to Baltic German and American parents and spent his working life in France, England and the United States.
