The authors were friends of the Governor of Kenya, Sir Henry Belfield, and visited East Africa on a hunting trip at his invitation. The first half, mainly by Mrs. Meikle, is descriptive of the coast, Mombasa and Nairobi, the Uganda Railway, and German East Africa - the trip occurred in early 1913, before hostilities broke out between the British and German territories. The second part lists R.S. Meikle's safari and big game hunting experiences. There is a short final chapter on Fishing in the Protectorate by F.G. Aflalo.
