This copy has the ownership stamp of Orlando Paes. He was well known in the big game hunting fraternity. Their family name is Mamede and they operated a professional hunting service from the old Portuguese East-Africa. The ownership stamp also occurs on the last page, as well as the two pages in the images provided. Translated from the French and introduction by Frederic Lees. Original blue pebble grain cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine and an elephant head device on the upper board. Top edge gilt. Black end papers. xxvii prelims, 330 pages, 30 full page black and white plates including the frontis, map showing route, a further 36 in text illustrations, followed by 10 pages of the publisher\'s illustrated catalogue. CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has some edge wear, especially at the head of the spine and the corners. Internally clean, with a few soil and foxing/spotting marks.
