An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785-1950

For over 200 years, big game hunters journeyed to Africa in search of sport and adventure. Some were explorers garnering knowledge of a virtually unknown continent, while others were soldiers enjoying their leave, or missionaries pioneering among native tribes. A few hunted as a livelihood. Many recounted their adventures in book form.

Included in this bibliography are complete physical descriptions of the books, with special notation of maps and illustrated plates. The annotations provide details of hunting locales, as well as the big game species collected. A special suuite of coloured plates shows a representative display of the bookbinders' art.
