Dust jacket shows signs of edge rubbing, but no tears. The leather spine has slightly discoloured the dust jacket spine. Dark brown quarter leather spine with gilt titles. Cream paper-coverred boards. The book and all its pictures are in Very Good condition with no internal damage and tight binding.

13 colour plates representing 10 artists. Eleven sets of monochrome illustrations, each of four pages, and each devoted to the work of a particular artist considered representative of a period. These artists are: Peter Schenk, Peter Kolbe, E.V. Stade, Johannes Rach, Lady Anne Barnard, Sir Charles D'Oyly, Johannes Cornelis Poortermans, Thomas Bowler, Charles Davidson Bell, Belton Prior and Heinrich Egersdorfer.
