Possibly the most difficult of Stevenson-Hamilton's first editions to find in collectable condition. A large volume of 529pp. plus prelims and index. With numerous black and white illustrations and 6 maps, two of which are folding and in fine condition. In the original red cloth with silver titling and map on the front cover. Fore and lower edges uncut.

Czech: An annotated Bibliography of African Big Game hunting Books, 1785 to 1999, pages 266-7,‘The author, warden of the Transvaal Government Game Reserves, describes in detail all manner of African wild life including elephant, lion, rhinoceros, buffalo and a host of antelope species. In his chapter on the lion, Stevenson-Hamilton describes a gruelling duel between Harry Wolhuter, a ranger of the game reserve, who used a hunting knife to slay a lion which was attacking him. There are numerous other incidents of hunting game both by the author and other sportsmen in Africa.’

From the distinguished Raubenheimer library with his green leather ex libris on the front pastedown which has offset on to the front free endpaper. Another ownership signature on the free endpaper dated Pretoria 1915. Minor dulling to the spine and a few minor cloth blemishes but still at least a very good clean copy with a nice provenance.
