First edition: 498 pages + 30 pages publisher's index, 5 engraved plates, numerous line drawings in the text, original brown cloth stamped with a blind pattern and gilt vignette on the covers, titled gilt on the spine which has been simply repaired at the top and the bottom, uncut fore-edge, corners bumped, a good copy.

Charles William King (5 September 1818 – 25 March 1888) was a British Victorian writer and collector of gems. One of his chief works on the subject was Antique Gems, their Origin, Uses and Value (1860), a complete and exhaustive treatise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_William_King
