The very scarce first monograph (in Afrikaans) on this major South African sculptor. This was the first (and apparently only) title in a proposed series - Suid-Afrikaanse Kunstenaars - published by Nasionale Pers in 1933. According to a message on a prelim blank, titles on Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser, Moses Kottler, Frans Oerder and P. Wenning were "reeds in die Pers" - already in the Press, but, to the best of my knowledge, appear not to have been published. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper.
This is a very good plus clean copy in the original cloth backed pictorial boards which are slightly bowed. Internally the book is clean, tight and unmarked, apart from a signed inscription by the author on the ffep. 30pp. of text and 20 full glossy page illustrations at the rear. I have only encountered a few copies of this title in the last 50 years, and this is by far the cleanest I have seen.
